Miss Starlight

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Hannah W is very excited about tonight’s evening activity – Miss Starlight.  Here is what she wrote about it in blogging today:

Tonight is Miss Starlight night.  Each girls’ bunk can choose any boy counselor in the camp to dress them up like a girl.  You can dress them up however you like so like a fairy or princess.  There is a winner for whoever is best dressed and who does the best talent.  Our counselor is Tom from boating.  We think we are going to dress him up like a ballerina.  We are going to put makeup on him.  His name is going to be Tombellina.  He is going to wear a tutu and he is is going to be very pretty.

Thanks Hannah – let’s see if he wins!

MTV Finals Night

Monday, July 25th, 2011

On Saturday night at camp we held one of our favorite evening activities – MTV Finals Night.  The previous evenings had been spent whittling the acts down to one from each division and those bunks chosen to perform really pulled out all the stops.

The event is held down by the lake, with the performers taking their place on an amazing outdoor stage.  TV crews were on hand to record the whole event and to show all the action on the big screen.  As our celebrities arrived on the blue carpet – Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Prince William, Catherine Middleton and Russell Crowe – the crowds went wild in anticipation of the big event.

The lights went down (well, the sun) and we were treated to an amazing display of creativity, originality and team spirit.  From a group of nerds and Spongebob Squarepants through to male senior counselors doing ballet in rain ponchos, the entertainment just didn’t stop.  Alyssa and Danny our hosts kept the evening running smoothly and it seemed to come to an end far too quickly.

The judges huddled in the eco-science building and made their decision.  With so many great entries it was going to be tough, but for the first time in Starlight MTV Night history, one group had received full marks from all five judges.  The Senior Boys had beaten all the other entrants with their superb journey of music through the ages, starting with the 1970s.  In second place came Girls Bunk 6 with their Spongebob Squarepants / Bubblegum routine.  It was evident that an awful lot of time, thought and energy had gone into preparing for the evening – thank you to all our participants for a truly entertaining night.
