Kicking Off the Summer with Camp Starlight Leagues

Rushing out onto the grass of the flagpole during morning announcements to the sound of college fight songs the entire camp cheers and shouts as we kick off Camp Starlight’s College Leagues! The competitions of camp have begun. Throughout the entirety of camp, all the divisions are separated into four groups within their division: orange for Idaho State University, green for Portland State University, red for Southern Utah University and blue for Montana State University.

“I love competing with my friends against my other friends. You get to know everyone at camp in this mini-olympics event,” said Elizabeth, an Upper Deb.

Camp Starlight kicks off the summer with this competition to start teaching the important ethics and morals of games and sportsmanship.

“It allows them to improve skills in all varieties and teaches teamwork,” said Jeffrey Foster, Athletic Director on Boy’s Side.

“It’s healthy competition and it’s fun to watch them try and put maximum effort into their team that they want to represent. There is a lot of support too, they encourage all their different teammates,” said Meredith Primm, Athletic Director on Girl’s Side.

After a Girl’s Side Upper Deb’s soccer match, campers celebrated their win with a cheer that spelled out P-S-Y-C-H-E-D. Shouting this cheer not only congratulated their team’s success, but embodied the attitude these Starlight League games instill into all of camp.
