Spirit of Starlight is one of the best nights of the summer for sure! Girls’ Camp gathered in the Rec Hall for Camp Starlight’s annual Dance and Cheer Competition. Voices could be heard all the way out at the second lake as each division competed in an epic battle of spirit. Leading off the night were the Upper Inter Arabian Nights with Division Leader Janelle arriving on a magic carpet and Emma as Abu. From another planet, the Upper Deb’s Space Odyssey aliens gave an extraordinary performance. The Junior Girls followed the yellow brick road all the way to our hearts with huge smiles as they sang and danced to the Wizard of Oz. Straight from prehistoric times came the Jurassic Lower Debs with an enthusiastic performance with their mascot triceratops. The Lower Inter’s were next with a good ole’ fashion hoe down in “western” rain boots. Closing the night, the “Aca-Seniors” were certainly pitch perfect as they performed their own version of the cup song. Each division presented their incredible banners and themed cakes which everyone enjoyed. While the judges deliberated the CA’s performed an incredible dance and showed off their own spirit. Allison Miller announced this year’s winner THE JURASSIC LOWER DEBS and they proudly accepted the Spirit of Starlight Star!

The match started well with Josh M winning his first singles game 8-3. Cooper G also followed that up with an 8-4 win after a close start to the match. Ethan repeated the run by winning his ever proper singles game at 8-0. As we entered doubles Lance L and Noah M just kept up the winning streak by winning their own match 8-1. Jacob M and Justin M finished the match in style by winning 8-0. All of the boys represented Starlight in the right way and I look forward to more matches with this great team.

4th Grade Girls Basketball 07/09/15
Today we started off strong throughout the first quarter, although the rest of the game was a different story. Our 4th grade girls battled hard but fell short to Camp Levi. Even though we lost, there was a few girls who shined bright. Brooke G and Sydney R lead us off with two baskets and free throws. Throughout the game, Lilly T kept her ground while rebounding gave her a chance to lay it back for two points. Joie E took us coast to coast gaining another two points for Starlight. All of the girls played very well and I’m very proud of each girl on my team for staying fair and true to the sportsmanship and spirit of Starlight.

Backstage: Willy Wonka
Sunday, July 12th, 2015Only at Camp Starlight can rolls of paper be made into something spectacular. Everyone marvels at the finished product of the plays, but often times, people forget those involved backstage. This week, the crew is back and hard at work on Willy Wonka. Upper Senior Dani S. explains that this show creates a whole new tone backstage. “My favorite part about this show is painting the lollypops. We’re using so many colors and it is especially bright and colorful in the Playhouse!” Each period the Inters come in and sing their hearts out for one determined Theater Director, Jeff Moss, who pinches and perfects each number until each is show ready. Blake, the set designer, is busy behind the curtain, helping campers build a perfect set. Madison K., an Upper Senior girl working on the set, explained that, “it’s amazing that we start from scratch each week. We work together to build something beautiful.” And she’s right. There is nothing like it in the world. On Sunday night Jeff Moss will announce “Ladies and Gentlemen” and the show will begin. With eyes peeled, we will clap with enthusiasm and watch all of the hard work that those behind the scenes have put into the show.
