Starlight Pageantry

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

There are countless reason Camp Starlight remains a special place. We all know of the facilities, activities, and camaraderie seven weeks in the hills of our Pennsylvania home bring us, but let’s not forget about the pageantry. Pageantry doesn’t stop and end at the Playhouse, nor does it only come out on MTV night. Our entire summer has a key element: spontaneity.

There’s a sense of ease that sets in when you arrive on camp because daily nuances head out the window. At camp you no longer have to spend 30 minutes in front of a mirror getting ready for your day or plan your wardrobe out for an entire week. We are less concerned with the materialistic things that hold us back in our normal lives and are more focused on being around friends and activities we love while sporting our creative side through our creative clothing.

From tutus on birthdays to Senior “gotcha” we spend everyday surrounded with elaborate costumes and outfits that not only give us a good laugh, but also provide a sense of unity. Seriously, where else will you randomly see a human banana being chased by a gorilla while enjoying your lunch? How often do you pass a group of people dressed “upside-down” on your way to the snack shack? The answer is never and that’s why we love camp because having fun and showing some wacky style shouldn’t only come once a year.
